We get started the crowdfunding campaign to support the new project of Santa Elena residence!

In 2015 we built the Secondary School in Santa Elena’s village, in the rural area of the Peruvian amazon rainforest. This project gave to hundreds of teenagers the opportunity to access the second level of the education system in the area of Cuenca Sanibeni, receiving more and more students each year, reaching today 80 enrolled undergraduates. However, due to its strategic position it is estimated that it could receive over 250 students in the coming years.

In the Peruvian amazon rainforest, the access routes are difficult, the territory is unfavourable, and the roads consist of little earth path. Most students come across dangerous roads, walking between 2 and 5 hours to reach the school.

To solve this problem, the community has built a temporary residence to housing students and teachers coming from the most farawayvillages and native communities. However, these temporary structures break all human rights and do not meet the minimum conditions of hygiene, comfort and safety.

That is the reason why we want to build, together with the community, an adequate and comfortable residence for students and teachers. This is how “A step away from school!” came out, a project with which we want to provide decent housing for the students and teachers of Santa Elena secondary school.

The new residence will be built with the community’s participation, which will not only benefit from it, but will also be the project’s protagonist. It will welcome students and teachers and represent a space for sharing and meeting, creating new opportunities for learning and ensuring the fundamental rights to education and housing for the youths of Cuenca Sanibeni.

All of this will be possible thanks to the strength of cooperation, coming from the collaboration of different national and international institutions with the participation of the community in all project phases.

The main funding of the project come from “Valdese Evangelical Church”, its contribution together with the funds collected in this campaign, the contributions of local institutions as well as the community will be used to build the residence.
