After identifying the problems, limitations and shortcomings of the community through different groups of people and different views, the next step is to prioritise them so as to start working on the most important or urgent issues.
The starting point of any community diagnosis is to identify all problems and limitations within the community itself. This first step in the process involves three key activities: working with the children to develop a community map of the future; SWOT analysis of local institutions and resources, and finally of a social map of the community and another of the future, the latter two steps developed directly with the villagers.

Local development must above all stem from an internal and inherent process by which the community and its inhabitants form the primary protagonists. Nobody understands community-based issues better than its residents; furthermore, sustainable development cannot exist without the will and work of the community.
