The “workshop school” is a theoretical/practical workshop that takes place alongside the construction of each project. Its goal is to teach carpentry to students, teachers, and parents, complementing the “education for work” (EPT) course in the curriculum of public schools. It fosters leadership, teamwork, and technical skills that can be replicated in daily life.

Three workshop schools have been held: the first in 2019 during the construction of the Student Residence in Santa Elena, and two in 2023 during its expansion. The “learning by doing” methodology allows for the collective construction of furniture for dormitories and common areas.

Alongside 40 participants, 64 drawers, 12 seats known as “cubes,” and 36 shelves were built, giving a second life to leftover OSB boards from the construction. Organized into teams and using a didactic manual, the pieces are assembled. The process begins with laying out the pieces, followed by cutting, assembly, and finally finishing and adding accessories. In this way, personal drawers are placed under the bunk beds, the “cubes” function as seats and storage spaces, with lids that also serve as game boards, while the shelves are used as shoe racks.
